Bucharest – Balea Waterfall – Balea Lake – starting from December 23, 2018
Our meeting will be at 7:30 a.m. at your hotel from Bucharest. We’ll travel together 120 km to Pitesti on the highway. After that, we’ll enjoy a picturesque road through the villages, crossing the Olt Gorge to the northern part of the Fagaras Mountains.
At Balea Waterfall we’ll park the car. That’s because we are going by cable car to Balea Lake (hope to have good weather). We’ll visit the Ice Hotel, the restaurant, the bar, and the Ice Church, all of which are made of ice blocks cut from the frozen lake.
Starting from 2005, at 2034 m altitude is built a unique hotel. Every year, the theme is different, builders working at extreme temperatures to finish it. The ice construction complex includes the main hotel building, the igloos equipped with accommodation rooms, and the ice church. Inside the hotel, we’ll find a restaurant and a bar.
The Ice Hotel has 14 double rooms with matrimonial bed (the bed is made of ice, but the mattresses and sleeping bags guarantee an optimal temperature). Each room also has a table and chairs. For those who want more privacy, they are welcome to overnight in one of the 6 igloos near the hotel.
The adventure continues with the ice restaurant. We’ll be very impressed by that lovely place. That’s because you can eat from ice plates or drink from an ice glass. Of course, you’ll have another option if you want to have lunch in a warm restaurant. You can go to Balea Chalet for a good meal (not included in the tour price).
At the end, we are going down by cable car. We’ll take the car from the parking lot. So, we will return to Bucharest. This time we can use a different route from the one we came, meaning to Brasov.
We’ll be back at your hotel after 4-5 hours driving. It depends on the traffic. But happy to see one of the most spectacular sightseeing in our country during the winter.
